LOCAL: Yesterday afternoon the Texas Department of Public Safety released their report on a fatal accident north of Hereford yesterday morning. Gilbert Olivarez, age 30, of Dimmitt, was pronounced deceased on the scene from injuries sustained in the accident approximately 8 miles north of Hereford on US 385. The preliminary investigation reveals Olivarez was driving north in his 2021 Hyundai Accent and struck the rear end of a semi-trailer on a truck that had slowed down to turn off the highway. The crash occurred at 8:34 yesterday morning and remains under investigation by Texas Highway Patrol……Hereford City Commissioners will meet in a regular session on Monday for a lengthy, 17-item, agenda. Commissioners will hear several rezoning requests, recognize the Hereford Volunteer Fire Department and work on the upcoming fiscal year’s budget among the items. The meeting is at 6:30 at City Hall……Funeral services for Marvin Welty, age 88, are tomorrow at 11:00 at Avenue Baptist Church. Marvin was a lifelong area resident and farmer. He loved competing at the Hereford Gun Club in shooting sports. Viewing is today from 4:00-8:00 at Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home. He died on Wednesday in Dimmitt……Severe storm chances exist across much of the area today with large hail, up to 2 inches, and damaging winds being the main severe threats. Storms will also be capable of producing heavy rainfall.
