John Blake and Marshall Formby established KPAN outside of Hereford, TX, in 1948. Marshall’s nephew Clint helped in the construction of the radio station while a student at Texas Tech. In 1950 Marshall became sole owner of the station, and in 1956 Clint became a partner. Chip Formby, Clint’s son, joined the station in 1978 as news director and engineer, eventually becoming General Manager in 1994. In 2003 Chip’s son Jonathan came to work at KPAN, and other son Lane in 2006. After Chip’s untimely passing in the summer of 2020, Lane returned to Hereford to continue the Formby radio legacy.
