LOCAL: The latest U.S. Drought Monitor release shows just under 37% of Deaf Smith County with D3, extreme drought, conditions. The rest of the county is in the D2 category. The latest release looks bleak compared to a year ago when no drought conditions existed in the county, and even at the beginning of the calendar year when Deaf Smith County was drought free……Joe Cabezuela and Jason Aiven won the Championship Flight at the Elks Madness Golf Tournament over the weekend in Hereford. They shot a two-day 127, two strokes better than second place finishers Aiven Martinez and Xavier Sauceda……Funeral services for Irene “Grammie” Mullins, age 88, are today at 11:00 at Avenue Baptist Church. Irene was a longtime Hereford resident who worked for the city and as a night dispatcher for REC. Irene loved to travel and visited all 50 states. She died on Wednesday in Hereford……Funeral services for Dora Gonzales, age 89, are tomorrow at 11:00 at San Jose Catholic Church. Viewing begins at 4:00 today with a rosary at 6:00 at Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home. Dora appreciated the simple pleasures in life like dancing with her late husband, Arturo. She died on Monday in Amarillo……The Herd fell to Mineral Wells on Friday in the third round of playoff baseball, 14-4.
