LOCAL: City commissioners meet in a special session this afternoon at 5:30 at City Hall. They’ll work through a 5-item agenda that includes awarding a bid to harvest caliche at the city farm and extension of city services to the Tipsy Turtle RV Park, at 3876 Victory Way. The meeting is open to the public……HISD Board of Trustees meet in a regular session this evening at 6:00 at the Administration Building. They’ll consider several cafeteria upgrades at district campuses among the items. The meeting is open to the public……A rosary was recited yesterday for Eugenio “Gene” Porras, age 58. Gene died last Wednesday in a farm accident in Hereford. He was a longtime area resident and had worked on the Grotegut family farm since he was 19 years old. His greatest love in life was his family, especially his grandchildren……Funeral services for Irene Mullins, age 88, are tomorrow at 11:00 at Avenue Baptist Church. Visitation is today from 6:00-8:00 at Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home. Irene’s greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She died Wednesday in Hereford……Funeral services for Dora Gonzales, age 89, are Wednesday at 11:00 at San Jose Catholic Church. Viewing is tomorrow at 4:00 at Mendez and Mullins. Dora was a longtime Hereford resident who died on Monday in Amarillo……Services are pending for Sandra “Sandie” Beavers, age 84, who died on Wednesday in Amarillo……Extreme fire conditions exist area-wide today.
