LOCAL: The United States Geological Survey (“USGS”) confirmed an earthquake occurred in the northeastern Panhandle this morning at 5:21. The USGS says the 5.0 magnitude quake occurred at a depth of 5.7 km, and happened near Highway 70, between Spearman and Miami. Shockwaves could be felt as far southwest as Friona in the KPAN listening area. According to the USGS there’s a 52% chance for an additional 3.0+ magnitude earthquake to occur within the next seven days……HISD Board of Trustees meet Friday afternoon at 5:50 in a regular session to work through a 14-item agenda. There’s a public hearing on the tax rate for Amarillo College’s Hereford campus, possible approval of the upcoming school year’s student code of conduct and consideration on tennis court renovations through the district’s fund balance. The meeting is at the Administration Building Board Room and is open to the public……A stretch of brutal afternoon temps continues through the middle part of next week across the Panhandle. Deaf Smith, Parmer, Castro and Swisher counties are without a heat advisory today while one is in place for the rest of the area.
