LOCAL: Texas A&M AgriLife and the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board have opened applications for the Texas Conservation and Sustainability Initiative. Landowners are eligible to receive up to $100,000 in funding through the USDA’s Advancing Markets for Producer program for technical assistance and cost-share for practices that benefit soil health through building organic matter, improving water cycle functioning and reducing erosion. Farmers and ranchers can view the application and more information about the program at tcsi.tamu.edu. Row-crop incentives include: $80 per acre for cover crops, $30 per acre for reduced tillage, $30 per acre for no-till, $275 per acre for nutrient management including slow-release manure and $30 per acre for conservation crop rotation. The project manager is Andy Smith, 254-780-7682……The Hereford Food Pantry is open for their regular schedule today from 12:00-3:00 at 900 North Lee……Severe storm chances favor the northwestern Panhandle today where 75 mph wind gusts and 1.25 inch hail will be possible. The Hereford area will see lesser severe chances, currently under a 1 of 5 on the severe legend. Abundant moisture in the atmosphere that storms can tap into will make heavy rainfall possible as well.
