LOCAL: The HHS UIL Social Studies and Current Events Teams both took the top spot at the Region 1 competition. Podium finishers included first place finishes from Evelyn Alvarez in social studies and Lorenzo Baeza in current events. Audrina Alvarez placed 3rd in social studies and Karen Rivas placed 3rd in current events. Both teams qualified for the state competition in May.
A sendoff for Izak Dominguez begins at 1:15 this afternoon on LaPlata Drive. The route goes in front of Northwest Elementary and has a stop in front of Hereford High School before heading south on HWY 385. Izak runs at the state meet on Thursday afternoon in the 110m Hurdles.
Funeral services for Bryan Curtis, age 76, are today at 2:00 at the College Heights Baptist Church in Plainview. Bryan was a former longtime Hereford resident and 1967 HHS graduate. He worked as a welder at Holly Sugar Inc. for more than 20 years. Mr. Curtis died on Thursday in Amarillo.
Funeral services for Angel Alvarez, age 33, are Saturday at 2:00 at Parkside Chapel Funeral Home. Angel was a lifelong Hereford resident and 2009 HHS graduate. He had worked at M.B. McKee Co. Angel was an avid Denver Broncos fan and a homebody. Viewing and visitation is Friday from 12:00-8:00 at Parkside. He died on Saturday in Hereford following a lengthy illness.
All personal items need to be removed from Rest Lawn Cemetery by this Wednesday, April 30th. Items will be removed on Thursday to allow for grounds maintenance.
