LOCAL: Hereford Independent School District received a passing “C,” from the Texas Education Agency in their latest ratings. The 2022-23 school year ratings were held up due to legal battles regarding the new rating system with stricter grading points. HISD improved on their 2021-22 rating, which was adjusted for a “D” with the new ratings.
HHS grad and junior electrical engineering major, Will Blackmon, was named WT’s Man of the Year at last week’s Honors Ceremony. Will is a WT Rogers LEAD Scholar and is active in various organizations on campus.
KPAN recorded .11 of an inch of rain at the downtown studios. Heavier rainfall and small hail skirted the north side of town where the Hereford Mesonet site measured .24 of an inch of rain. Other area totals include .47 of an inch at Vega, .45 at Adrian, .44 inch of rain at Umbarger and .28 at Endee. Several nice days are on-tap before rain chances return late Sunday.
Election Day is tomorrow with a local race for the HISD Board of Trustees Single Member District 1 seat. Voting hours are 7:00-7:00 at the Deaf Smith County Courthouse and the Hereford Civic Center. Incumbent Mike Bryant is facing challengers Emilio Niño and Sara Brummett in the race.
Funeral services for Angel Alvarez, age 33, are tomorrow at 2:00 at Parkside Chapel. Viewing and visitation is 12:00-8:00 today at the funeral home. Angel was a lifelong Hereford resident and 2009 HHS graduate.
