LOCAL: Early registration for a late February conference on local water conservation ends this Saturday, January 24th. A Conference on Community Water will be held February 24th-25th, at the Hereford Civic Center, and features two days of field tours and speaker sessions focusing on long-term water resources for human and natural communities in Hereford and Deaf Smith County. Cost is $60 for the event and registration can be done online at oggallacommons.org/conference, or by contacting Darry Birkenfeld at 806-336-1713. The fee increases to $75 after Saturday……The Lady Herd handled Dumas with ease last night in district basketball, 59-31. Mia Gomez had 14 points in the win and Azzlyn Zallar added 12 points for Hereford. They improve to 7-1 in league play with the win……The Herd fell to the Demons, 36-54. The Whitefaces are currently 1-5 in district play with the Canyon Eagles up next……Graveside services for Patsy Hampton, age 97, are today at 2:00 at West Park Cemetery. A viewing will take place from 11:00-12:00 this morning at Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home. Patsy was a lifelong Hereford resident and 1946 HHS grad. She is remembered as a great cook, especially for her homemade bread, and a loving grandmother with a giving heart. Patsy died on Sunday……A winter storm watch and extreme cold watch have been issued for the area beginning Friday afternoon and evening. Snow could begin falling as early as overnight Thursday according to latest model runs and continuing through Saturday.
