WEATHER: (November 5, 2025) WEDNESDAY – High yesterday was 88° at 3:00; this morning’s low was 46° at 7:00. KPANcast: Sunny and cooler with a high near 72°.         

LOCAL: Unofficial election results show 1,483 registered voters cast ballots in Deaf Smith County in early voting and on election day. A hand recount for the HISD Voter Approval Tax Rate Election took place this morning. It was the only local ballot item and passed with 862 votes for, or 61.4%, and 542 votes against, or 38.6%. All 17 state constitutional amendments were approved by Texas voters……West Texas A&M University senior, Taytum Stow, can now add All-Time Block Leader to her resume as she set a new record in the category on Saturday. Taytum had tallied 571 total blocks in 129 matches to become the new record holder at WT. It came the same week she took the All-Time Solo Block title for the collegiate program as well……Funeral services for Arnold Ray Powell, age 81, are this afternoon at 1:30 at the First Baptist Church. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the greatest joys of his life. Arnold died on Sunday in Amarillo……Funeral services for Catherine Cortez, age 91, are Friday morning at 10:00 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Viewing is Thursday afternoon from 3:00-5:00 at Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home. Catherine was KPAN’s “Mother of the Year,” in 1982.
