LOCAL: Xcel Energy is one step closer to shuttering the coal powered Tolk Station in Muleshoe. Yesterday they announced the purchase of 10 large gas turbines and associated generation equipment to replace the coal portion of the Tolk Station and for a new peaker plant in Gaines County. The gas turbines are designed for fast start-up and quick load changes with world-class emissions performance and efficiency. The turbines are made by Siemens with delivery scheduled for early 2026……Funeral services for Cynthia Ann Easterwood, age 64, are today at 10:00 at the Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home Chapel. Cynthia was raised in Hereford and was a 1979 HHS grad. She died on Sunday in Hereford……Funeral services for Oscar Rodriguez, age 91, are Saturday at 10:00 at Avenue Baptist Church. Visitation is tomorrow from 6:00-8:00 at Mendez and Mullins. Mr. Rodriguez was a longtime Hereford resident and farmer. He died on Monday……Graveside services for Tony Cano, age 91, will be Tuesday, October 14th, at the Angel Fire State Veteran Cemetery in Angel Fire, NM. Mr. Cano was a longtime member of the U.S. Air Force and served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
