LOCAL: Deaf Smith County Commissioners met at 9:00 this morning to work through a 9-item agenda in a regular session. Commissioners looked to install 30 mph speed limit signs on CR EE, worked through a budget amendment and looked to approve a proclamation in honor of 4-H Week……The Lady Whitefaces (1-3) host the Borger Lady Bulldogs (0-4) in district volleyball tonight at Whiteface Gym. The varsity will play the last match of the night with a scheduled start for 7:00. KPAN AM-FM will have live coverage……The Mexican government confirmed a case of New World Screwworm in Sabinas Hidalgo, Nuevo León, over the weekend. It’s the northernmost detection and just 70 miles from the U.S.-Mexico border. The parasitic fly is a threat to not just the cattle and livestock industries, but birds, wildlife, pets and even humans……Funeral services for Weldon Stephan, age 96, are Wednesday at 2:00 at Mendez and Mullins Chapel. Visitation is 1:00-2:00 tomorrow at the funeral home. He died on Thursday in Amarillo……Funeral services for Laura Jo Simnacher, age 51, are Thursday at 10:30 at the First Baptist Church. Laura worked at Tierra Blanca Cattle Feeders for 17 years. She enjoyed cheering her kids and grandkids on in their sporting events and was a beloved member of The Sunshine Kids, a support group for children with cancer.
