LOCAL: Our Blood Institute at Coffee Memorial Blood Center is kicking off the new year with a $5,000 giveaway. Donors who give blood now through January 12th, will be entered into the drawing. OBI will match the giveaway with a $5,000 donation to an anonymous area resident battling leukemia. There’s two local opportunities to give blood this week: at tomorrow’s Community Blood Drive from 3:00-6:00 at the Civic Center, and Wednesday’s Hereford Regional Medical Center Blood Drive at the hospital from 10:00-3:00……A visitation for Wayne Sims, age 81, is today from 5:00-7:00 at Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home. Mr. Sims worked in the savings and loan business for 26 years and as a real estate appraiser for more than two decades. He’s remembered as a loving husband and the best “girl dad” ever. Wayne died on Wednesday……Funeral services for Wesley Harkins, age 43, are today at 10:30 at the First Baptist Church of Dimmitt. Wesley was a farmer and custom harvester. He had many hobbies but above all is remembered as someone who enjoyed spending time with his family and serving others.
