LOCAL: The Lady Herd opened district basketball play with a win over Dumas last night, 53-35. The Lady Whiteface defense held the Demonettes scoreless for more than a quarter of the action. Mia Gomez led all scorers with 19 points. Hereford is 11-5 on the season, 1-0 in 4-4A play, and will face #1 Canyon on Friday evening at Whiteface Gym……Funeral services for James T. Clarke, age 94, are Saturday, January 10th, at 1:00 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Canyon. Jim played football at Texas Tech Unversity in 1949 and 1950 before joining the U.S. Navy. He would return to Tech in 1955 and won his scholarship back, again playing for the Red Raiders in 1955 and 1956. He began Jim’s Plumbing in Hereford in 1964. Mr. Clarke was a former longtime Hereford resident who died on December 7th, in Amarillo……Friends of the Library has kicked off their annual membership drive that supports local library programs and literacy projects. Individual memberships are $5, familes are $10, $15 for clubs or businesses and $250 for a lifetime.
