WEATHER: (August 14, 2025) THURSDAY – High yesterday was 95° at 4:00; this morning’s low was 66° at 6:00. KPANcast: Mostly sunny with a high near 100°.     

LOCAL: The string of triple-digit days last week set two new record high temperatures in Hereford. Wednesday’s 105° and Friday’s 106° will both go down in the record books. Friday blew through the previously held record high of 102° set back in 2019…A Heat Advisory has been issued for Palo Duro Canyon today from 12:00-9:00, and temps will approach the triple-digit mark in Hereford. Cooler temps and rain chances return this weekend……Herd Tennis opens the district campaign today against Canyon. The Whitefaces and the Eagles begin play at 4:00 today at the Canyon High School Tennis Complex. Hereford faces Dumas on Saturday before picking league play back up on August 26th……Funeral services for Melvin Smith, age 77, will be Saturday, August 23rd, at 1:00 at the First Baptist Church in Friona. Melvin was a Pastor at several churches in Texas and New Mexico. He also taught 8th grade history in Hereford and Friona. Mr. Smith died on Saturday in Abilene……Register now for the Hereford Jubilee at the Deaf Smith County Museum. Parade entries are free and vendor registration is $40 and can be done at the museum during regular business hours today.
