WEATHER: (March 19, 2025) WEDNESDAY – High yesterday was 82° at 5:00; this morning’s low was 36° at 5:00. KPANcast: Windy and cooler with a high near 52°.

LOCAL: Texas Department of Public Safety closed Interstate 27 for approximately two hours Tuesday night due to hazardous travel conditions caused by the wind. Low visibility from dust prompted the closure between Canyon and Happy.

The peak gust in Hereford was 61 mph and was measured at 6:38 PM at the Mesonet site. Wind gusts near the 40 mph mark and above lasted from 4:30 yesterday afternoon until 2:30 this morning. Another windy day is in-store across the area but higher relative humidity values will keep extreme wildfire conditions at bay in the Hereford area.

Funeral services for Eddie Alvarez Tijerina, age 52, are Friday at 2:00 at the Nazarene Family Church. Eddie was a lifelong Hereford resident and a 1991 HHS graduate. Eddie was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and is remembered as a loving family man. Visitation is tomorrow from 1:00-8:00 at Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home. Eddie died on Sunday in Hereford.

Lady Whiteface Softball held off Borger yesterday for their first district win, 5-4. Evelynn Brethour and Lexi Vallejo had hits for the Lady Herd in the win. They move to 1-4 in district action.

The Herd beat Borger in district baseball, 11-1. They’re at home on Friday taking on Perryton.
