LOCAL: The Hereford Lions Club honored Cindy Simons as the Citizen of the Year on Saturday evening at the Deaf Smith County Chamber of Commerce Banquet. Longtime Hereford resident Leona Schilling was inducted into the Chamber Hall of Fame and Wes Gaffney of McDonalds was honored for the new Wes Gaffney Award……The Whitefaces got a big win Friday night when they beat 3rd place Pampa, 58-54. Juan Grijalva had 18 points for the Herd and Tyi Duque added 15. The Herd are back in 4th place with a 4-5 district record…… The Lady Herd dropped a close one to the Lady Harvesters, 51-48. Mia Gomez and Ellyana Tijerina both had 13 points for the Whitefaces but Pampa would prevail. Hereford remains one game ahead of the Lady Harvesters in 4th place at 5-6 in district play……Herd Soccer fell to Canyon in two games on Friday and the girls and boys both move to 0-2 in district play……Funeral services for Nelda Cardenas, age 72, are tomorrow at 2:00 at San Jose Catholic Church. Visitation is tomorrow from 10:00-1:00 at Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home. Nelda was a longtime Hereford resident and worked for McCracken Farms for many years……Funeral services for Jeremy Lueb, age 50, are tomorrow at 10:00 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Vigil is this evening at 6:00 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon. Jeremy was a 1993 HHS graduate and lifelong area resident.
