WEATHER: (March 7, 2024) THURSDAY – High yesterday was 70° at 5:00; this morning’s low was 47° at 7:00. KPANcast: Mostly cloudy and breezy. 

LOCAL: Candidate Kevin Brown and Candidate Shane Kapka will face a runoff for the County Commissioner Precinct 3 seat. Kevin’s 49% of votes were just short of the 50% +1 vote needed to secure the nomination. That runoff election will take place on May 28th……Deaf Smith County voters were in favor of all 13 propositions gauging sentiment that were put forth by the Texas Republican Party. Garnering the most “yes” votes (96.16%) would be an amendment to the Texas Constitution which would require proof of citizenship before any individual can register to vote. Close behind was Prop. 13 (96.01%) which bans the sale of Texas land to citizens, government and entities from China, Iran, North Korea and Russia. On the other end of the sentiment, Prop. 9, which would restrict voting in the Republican primary to only registered Republicans, received, 68.7% of votes. Just under 20% of eligible voters hit the polls with 1,628 of 8,510 registered voters in Deaf Smith County casting ballots……Severe thunderstorms are possible for much of the area today with most models pointing towards all hazards staying well east of the Hereford area.
