LOCAL: Texas A&M Forest Service reported that the Smokehouse Creek Fire that began in Hutchinson County has now burned an estimated 500,000 acres with 0% containment as of publishing. The fire is now in Hutchinson, Carson, Roberts, Gray, Hemphill and Wheeler counties in Texas and has crossed the state-line into Oklahoma. It’s already the second largest wildfire in state history behind the East Amarillo Complex Fire from 2006. Evacuation orders for several towns and areas were issued due to the rapid spread which then turned to shelter-in-place orders as many exit routes were through zero-visibility smoke screens…A fire ignited in Oldham County yesterday near HWY 385 in the north-central part of the county and prompted an evacuation of Boys Ranch. The Magenta Fire has burned an estimated 2,000 acres and was 10% contained at midnight……The Herd’s season came to an end with a 49-91 loss to Randall last night in the regional quarterfinal round of playoff basketball. Juan Bermudez and Diego Villegas each had 11 points for the Herd and Diego Ornelas added 10.
