WEATHER: (July 13, 2022) WEDNESDAY – High yesterday afternoon was 95° at
5:00; this morning’s low was 68° at 6:00. KPANcast: Partly cloudy and
hot with a slight chance for a stray afternoon storm.
LOCAL: KPAN recorded .21 inch of rain from late afternoon showers and
thunderstorms yesterday. At the transmitter site three miles southwest
of town, KPAN recorded .5 inch of rain. Much of the region received
rainfall yesterday stretching from Friona to Panhandle and to the
south……Accounts have been established at two local banks to help offset
expenses for the 8U and 12-14 girls softball teams from Deaf Smith
County Kids Inc. The 8U girls team is heading to the 2022 World Series
at the end of the month in Florida with estimated expenses at $25,000.
The 8U account for the Little Heifers is at Hereford Texas Federal
Credit Union, and the 12-14 girls account is at both First National Bank
locations……The Texas Jail Commission approved the new Deaf Smith County
Jail and Law Enforcement Center for operation on Monday evening. The
facility will not house inmates until staffing requirements are
met……Jerry Koenig is retiring from Deaf Smith Electric Cooperative after
44 years with the company. Koenig says he has no grandiose plans but
does want to enjoy whatever he and wife Brenda plan to do. Jerry was the
