WEATHER: (July 7, 2022) THURSDAY – High yesterday was 99° at 4:00; this
morning’s low was 75° at 7:00. KPANcast: Mostly cloudy and hot with a
high near 97°. 35% chance for showers and thunderstorms this afternoon.
LOCAL: The latest U.S. Drought Monitor map shows much of the Southwest
completely in drought conditions. New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Nevada and
California are all states with 100% coverage from some form of drought.
Parts of the Texas Gulf Coast have seen relief over recent days, but 46%
of the state remains in D3-D4 conditions. Deaf Smith, Oldham and Castro
Counties are in D3-D4 drought……Funeral services for Patricio Nieto, age
88, are today at 10:00 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. He died Sunday
in Hereford……Funeral services for Juan Rodriguez, age 69, are tomorrow
at 10:00 at San Jose Catholic Church. Viewing is today from 2:00-8:00 at
Mendez and Mullins. Juan was an Army Veteran, serving from 1971-1975. He
died last Thursday in Dimmitt……Afternoon showers skirted Hereford
yesterday but did drop their bounty in the area. Northern Deaf Smith
County and Oldham County were again the beneficiaries of rainfall, with
more than an inch falling just south of Vega. Above normal temps and
afternoon/evening shower and thunderstorm chances will continue into the
