WEATHER: (June 22, 2022) WEDNESDAY – High yesterday was 94° at 4:00; 

this morning’s low was 62° at 5:00. KPANcast: Partly cloudy with a 

slight chance for showers and thunderstorms.

LOCAL: Deaf Smith County Commissioners met yesterday to ratify a ban on 

the sale and use of fireworks through July 5th in the county. After 

repeated attempts from Judge DJ Wagner the Governor returned the request 

last Friday. Deaf Smith County is well over the 575 or greater 

Keetch-Byram Drought Index which is required to institute such ban. As 

of last Wednesday, the county’s KBDI was 647……Funeral services for 

Gerzain Valenzuela are today at 2:00 at San Jose Catholic Church. 

Gerzain was a 2007 HHS Graduate and worked at Hereford Trailer Center. 

He died on Sunday in Hereford……Funeral services for Raymond Cantu, age 

42, are tomorrow at 10:00 at Good News Church. Viewing is today from 

3:00-8:00 at Parkside Chapel Funeral Home, with visitation from 

7:00-8:00. Mr. Cantu was a HHS Graduate and worked at Southwest Cheese. 

He died on Monday in Bovina……The Texas Department of State Health 

Services reported more than 12k new COVID-19 cases yesterday across the 

state. The figure is inflated due to a backlog of lab results from tests 

submitted last Wednesday. TxDSHS also reported 10 fatalities 

yesterday……A weather pattern producing favorable precip chances for the 

area will setup over the weekend through the middle of next week. 

Showers and thunderstorms are expected nightly coming off the Rockies
