LOCAL: A 33 year-old Hereford man was killed in a single vehicle accident involving a train early Sunday. Gerzain Valenzuela was northbound on FM 2943 at the Hwy 60 train crossing at approximately 3:15 AM when his Chevy Malibu was struck in the crossing. The accident remains under investigation by Texas DPS. Valenzuela graduated from HHS in 2007 and was a standout Distance Runner as a Whiteface, winning three Cross Country District Championships and a 6thplace finish in the 3200m at the state track meet in 2007. Funeral services are Wednesday at 2:00 at San Jose Catholic Church. Visitation is today from 4:00-8:00 at Mendez and Mullins Funeral Home……

City Commissioners met for a 14-item agenda yesterday at City Hall. The commission approved the city manager to apply for a state grant that would be used toward revamping Main Street with sidewalk and street level repairs to infrastructure. Areas of Main meet criteria that qualify for the $500,000 grant, classified as a slum/blighted area in technical terms……

Deaf Smith County Commissioners meet this morning to vote on adopting a resolution approved by Gov. Greg Abbott banning the sale and use of fireworks through July 5th. The 2-item agenda will be worked through at 9:00 at the courthouse……

Boys Basketball Camp tips off today at the Junior High Gyms. Registration is $40 and done on-site; 3rd-6th graders meet from 9:00-12:00, then 7th-9th graders from 1:00-4:00……

The top band at HHS advanced three UIL recordings to the state competition. The pieces will be judged at the end of July……
