WEATHER: (June 16, 2022) THURSDAY – High yesterday afternoon was 101° at 

5:00; this morning’s low was 71° at 6:00. KPANcast: Sunny and hot with

LOCAL: The Deaf Smith County Grand Jury met yesterday and indicted 12 

persons to stand trial on felony charges. Charges ranged in nature from 

DWI with elevated offenses of 3rd or more time and with a child 

passenger to felony possession of a firearm and possession of controlled 

substances……Thousands of head of cattle died from extreme heat and no 

wind relief in western Kansas yesterday. Approximately 7,000 cows were 

victims of the extreme conditions……Funeral services for Lupe Castillo, 

age 70, are tomorrow at 2:00 at San Jose Catholic Church. Rosary is 

today at 6:00 at Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home. Lupe was a 

longtime Hereford resident and worked at Cargill for many years. He died 

last Wednesday in Amarillo……Funeral services for Rosalinda “Rosa” 

Aranda, age 69, are Saturday at 10:00 at San Jose Catholic Church. 

Viewing is tomorrow from 4:00-8:00 at Mendez and Mullins. Rosa was a 

lifelong Hereford resident. She died on Monday in Amarillo……Funeral 

services for Ronnie Mankin, age 77, are Monday at 2:00 at the First 

Baptist Church in Amarillo. Ronnie was a former longtime Hereford 

resident and State Farm Insurance agent. He died last Wednesday……KPAN
