LOCAL: The 42nd Annual Christmas Stocking Fund received a record setting $54,046.18 in donations from local residents, businesses and organizations. The stocking fund has already provided assistance to 297 local residents. The annual fundraiser has surpassed the $900k mark for total funds raised since 1980……The Texas Dept. of State Health Services reported 51,481 COVID-19 cases statewide yesterday. That count includes backlogged numbers from the holidays. The department has reported 2,690 confirmed cases for Deaf Smith County, with 3.9 million cases reported in Texas since the pandemic began……Funeral services for Barnell “Chief” Landers, age 89, are this morning at 11:00 at Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home Chapel. Barnell was a longtime Hereford resident who died on Friday, December 24th……Funeral services for Richard Sims, Sr., age 83, are Friday at 2:30 at Avenue Baptist Church. Richard was a lifelong Hereford resident and graduated from HHS in 1958. He was a lifelong farmer. A viewing will be held on Thursday from 4:00-8:00 at Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home.
