LOCAL: The Hereford Whitefaces were leading the Bushland Falcons 14-7 when the game was called due to lightening at last night’s home opener. Two Gerardo Garcia touchdowns, a run and pass to Aiden Arias were the two Herd scores before the game was called……HISD School Board will meet in special session on Thursday for a 6-item agenda. That includes a public hearing on and approving the Proposed Tax Rate for Amarillo College’s Hereford branch for the upcoming 2021/22 fiscal year. The Board will also discuss the purchase of two new school buses for the district……Funeral services for Mayra Rios Rodriguez, age 21, are this morning at 11:00 at San Jose Catholic Church. Mayra was a lifelong Hereford resident who died Sunday in Amarillo……Amarillo’s Public Health Department reported 254 COVID-19 cases yesterday and 199 recoveries. The Trauma Service Area A COVID-19 hospitalization rate is at 16.9%……The Texas Tech Red Raiders season opener is at 6:00 tonight in Houston. The Red Raiders take on the University of Houston Cougars in a preview of a future conference matchup. KPAN AM-FM will have live coverage with pre-game beginning at 5:00……The Deaf Smith County Library is closed this weekend in observance of Labor Day……Showers and thunderstorms capable of producing heavy rains will move across the area today. A 70% chance of precipitation for the Hereford area through tomorrow morning before skies clear. Sunny skies and sunshine should return by Monday setting up a beautiful Labor Day Holiday.
