LOCAL: A candlelight vigil is being held tonight for the 13 fallen servicemen and women in Afghanistan. The vigil will be at the Texas Panhandle War Memorial in Amarillo at 8:00……KPAN recorded .84 inch of rain from very strong thunderstorms overnight. Other totals include 1.18 inches just west of Hereford at the Mesonet site, .34 inch at Dawn, and .5 inch of rain at Umbarger. The chance for showers and thunderstorms continues daily through the weekend……Trauma Service Area A is reporting an 18.28% COVID-19 hospitalization rate. The state of Texas recorded 17,033 confirmed cases yesterday and 320 fatalities……Monoclonal antibody treatments continue to show promising results according to Dr. Mark Sigler of Texas Tech Physicians. Anyone over the age of 12 that has tested positive and is at high risk is eligible for the treatment……A viewing is today for Jesus Marquez, age 72, from 10:00-5:00 at Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home. Mr. Marquez died Saturday……Funeral services for Victor Elizondo, Jr., age 50, are tomorrow at 2:00 at Parkside Chapel. Mr. Elizondo was a lifelong Hereford resident and 1989 HHS graduate. He died Saturday, August 21st……Funeral services for Mayra Rios Rodriguez, age 21, are Saturday at 11:00 at San Jose Catholic Church. A viewing is tomorrow at Mendez and Mullins from 12:00-8:00.
