LOCAL: The 87th Texas Legislature passed 666 laws that go into effect across the state today. Included in the new laws is House Bill 1927, which allows Texans, aged 21 and over to carry handguns without training or a license as long as they are not legally prevented from doing so. Also, Senate Bill 8 prohibits abortions as early as 6 weeks and allows private individuals the right to sue providers after a fetal heartbeat is detected……For the first time since the winter surge, Potter and Randall counties are reporting over 4,000 active COVID-19 cases. Amarillo’s Public Health Department reported an increase of 386 cases yesterday along with 74 recoveries and three additional deaths……Funeral services for Maria Leal, age 36, are this afternoon at 2:00 at the Hereford Church of the Nazarene. Maria was a lifelong Hereford resident who died Friday……A viewing for Jesus Marquez, age 72, will be held tomorrow from 10:00-5:00 at Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home. Mr. Marquez died Saturday in Lubbock……Funeral services for Mayra Rios Rodriguez, age 21, are Saturday at 11:00 at San Jose Catholic Church. Mayra was a lifelong Hereford resident and 2017 HHS graduate and worked as a CNA at Country View Living in Dimmit and at Cargill.
