LOCAL: The National Veterinary Services and Laboratories confirmed the first case of avian influenza in a wild great horned owl in Wichita County, the first confirmed case in a wild bird in Texas. The disease has been confirmed in 38 states across the country……The Hereford Whitefaces begin post-season baseball tomorrow in Littlefield. They’ll take on Big Spring at 4:00 for a double-header. KPAN AM-FM will have live coverage…… Funeral services for Opal Walterscheid, age 88, are tomorrow at 10:30 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Viewing is today from 5:00-7:00 with a Rosary at 6:00 at Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home. Opal was a longtime Hereford and area resident. She worked at Hereford State Bank from 1969-1997. She died Tuesday in Amarillo……Hereford Senior Citizens Association is hosting the 3rd Annual Kentucky Derby Gala on Saturday at the Senior Center. The small horse race and live viewing of the Kentucky Derby will highlight the evening. No ticket sales are offered at the door, but are available at the Sr. Center today and tomorrow until 3:00……Two radar-indicated tornados formed west of Wellington yesterday evening around 7:00.
