LOCAL: Deaf Smith County Sheriff’s Deputies engaged in a pursuit yesterday afternoon around 2:30 with a sedan. The pursuit started south of Hereford and ended when the vehicle crashed on South Julian and the suspect fled on foot into a residence. TX DPS Regional Swat and Amarillo PD Swat arrived on scene, and used a robot to fill the residence with gas which forced the suspect out of the home. The suspect was James Mireles, a fugitive wanted on aggravated assault and murder charges for the July 17th deadly shooting in the San Jacinto neighborhood in Amarillo. Mireles was taken into custody and booked in the Deaf Smith County Jail……Hereford pharmacist Brent Dance was recognized as the Amarillo Adjunct Preceptor of the year by Texas Tech University’s School of Pharmacy. Dr. Dance educates 4th year pharmacy students on business and clinical practices at Hereford Pharmacy……Texas is seeing its first spike in COVID-19 cases since the winter months. There were 3,319 COVID-19 patients hospitalized across the state as of Monday. That is still far below the peak of 14,218 statewide coronavirus hospitalizations on January 11th.
