WEATHER: (July 12, 2021) MONDAY – High yesterday was 85° at 4:00; this morning’s low was 64° at 6:30. KPANcast: Patchy fog this morning then clearing to sunny skies.  

LOCAL: The Texas Panhandle has seen a rebound in employment and expansion of the civilian labor force from last year. The unemployment rate for the Texas Panhandle was at 4% in May, down from 6.9% in May of 2020. The civilian labor force stood at 206,467 in May, that’s up from 197,726 in May of 2020……Deaf Smith County Commissioners meet tomorrow to discuss an 11-item agenda. The 9:00 meeting at the courthouse includes a budget workshop and budget amendments for Deaf Smith County……Agricultural producers have until Thursday to file their 2021 spring and summer-seeded crop acreage reports. Contact the Deaf Smith County FSA office at 364-0530 with any questions or to make an appointment……The Climate Prediction Center says a La Niña weather pattern will keep much of the southwest dry through the fall and early winter months while contributing to increased instability in the atmosphere over the Atlantic Ocean contributing to a very active late hurricane season. The report predicts cooling Pacific seawater in August which will provide a less than favorable climate for moisture flow into the southwestern United States.
